Although presented as a solo album, Dynasty showcases the Roc-A-Family, giving extensive mic time to Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek, who gets a whole. It features some of his most personal rhymes, with “Where Have You Been” dealing with the loss of his father to the streets, and “This Can’t Be Life” detailing the pain and suffering that most people experience when they’re stuck in an endless cycle of selling drugs and crime. Dre and Timbaland produced this epic thing, full of sincere stories from Jay-Zs hard times, while singles Big Pimpin and Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up) became big hits. It was the first major project recorded at Baseline Studios, and the album sees Jay continue to flirt with both gangster rap and radio-friendly pop.
